about

1996 and Nick returns to the Bedroom. As the Sleevenotes say: "Don't ask why, but for this album I decided to make the long-awaited(?) return to the style of the first few BF records. So it's back to the home recording facitilities, and back to being the only person involved. So it's definitely worse than the recent stuff. (Feel free to disagree)."
Well I disagree! This album sounds a bit like a cross between London Stone and Triptych. The production values are significantly better than the very early albums as Nick was clearly more adept as a sound engineer by this time. There are the trademark heavier rock tracks such as the excellent "Barking Or False Point Blues" mixed in with the raggy folk of the lovely "You Saw me Coming" and the desolate "Forgiven". "Requiem" is possibly the stand out track, showcasing Nick's lyrical dexterity, songwriting craft and fine guitar playing. Nick's more experimental side is given full rein on "All Hope Is Gone With You Away" and the wild and wonderful guitar freakout "Garden Aeroplane Trap" will delight those who revere Nick as the Guitar God he claims not to be (most of the time).
So it's Goodnight From the Band, and Goodnight from Him. Goodnight!

about

Bevis Frond Walthamstow

The Bevis Frond, the band name used by Nick Saloman for his projects, released Miasma in 1986 to great acclaim from fans of psychedelic rock. A steady stream of LPs since then showcase Nick's strengths of strong songwriting, finely crafted lyrics, and a musical mixture from wig-out guitar jams to sensitive folky numbers. New album The Leaving Of London is a triumphant return after a 7 year hiatus. ... more
